A Dog’s Life
As opposed to wolves, obsequiousness is the survival strategy of dogs. It gets them fed in exchange for castration and a leash. It has taken them to great heights and lows – and to every corner of the world. Dogs have all the qualities of the perfect slave and you can buy one at the pound. You can tell a lot about a person by their dog.
Dogs poop and pee in the middle of the sidewalk and instinctively scratch at the pavement. The irresponsible owner feels no shame and leaves the mess for others to deal with. Yellow stains and germ laden residue are ubiquitous. Public space is not a toilet – dogs or otherwise. And on top of the barking, biting, ticks, fleas, allergic reactions and hostile indignation, the comfort of the owner comes at the expense of the taxpayer who must grin and bear it.
To impose your dog at museums, restaurants, grocery stores and on the plane is unhealthy and extremely selfish. But it’s a billion dollar industry that cares little about people or animals.
It’s cruel to own a dog. If you truly love animals how could you enslave them? A gilded cage is still a cage.
The truth is, dog owners don’t have to work at relationships, it’s too easy to buy it by the pound…from the pound.
